HKUST Smart Campus Wins the Gold Prize
of the CIC CDE Award
Adopting ArcGIS technology and integrating BIM and IoT, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)’s Digital Twin for HKUST Campus received the Gold Prize of the Construction Industry Council’s (CIC) Common Data Environment Award 2022 (CDEA) under the Organization Category at the CIC Construction Innovation Expo (CIExpo). The competition, co-organized by the HKSAR Development Bureau and the CIC, is the first-ever CDE Award aiming to recognize local projects and organizations for the best use of CDE to improve the project management and productivity of digital collaboration.
The Digital Twin for HKUST Campus covered more than 60 buildings running on the web ArcGIS platform.
The HKUST Sustainable Smart Campus carries a vision of creating a digital twin, which digitizes the physical world with different facility systems integrated into a single hub. The BIM reconstruction fully covered more than 60 buildings, 20,000 rooms and a floor area of 500,000 square meters. Individual BIM sub-models are imported to a GIS platform, which effectively supports IFC data interoperability with a BIM-GIS data mapping scheme and is geo-referenced to the appropriate location. The project significantly enhances facility management like engineering analyses, operation management, and maintenance.
ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Network Analyst, ArcGIS Indoors, ArcGIS Experience Builder and ArcGIS Portal were used in the formation of the Digital Twin for HKUST Campus. Please visit the Web ArcGIS platform https://bit.ly/3ByufXE to explore the Digital Twin Model.
