To encourage young people to learn more about trees and then develop an interest to treasure and protect trees, the Conservation E3 Foundation (CE3) launched its signature project called Tree Adoption Program (TAP) in end September.
This project promotes learning among peers through an interactive online tree map using geographic information system (GIS), together with ecological guided tours, lectures, sharing sessions to facilitate students and the general public to learn the knowledge of trees, to increase their awareness on the trees around, and eventually appreciate the treasure of nature.
The official launch ceremony was hosted by Dr. Winnie Tang, Chairman of Esri China (HK), and Founder and Chairman of CE3. The officiating guests included Mr. Chin-wan Tse, Under Secretary for the Environment; Mr. Patrick Chuen-chi Lai, Assistant Director (Country & Marine Parks) of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department; Mr. Ho-leung Au, Head of Department of Applied Science, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education; together with Dr. Angela Cheung, Vice President, UNESCO Hong Kong Association Limited.
Over 900 tree conservation ambassadors from primary and secondary schools have joined the TAP with 21 supporting organizations. Esri China (HK) is proud to be one of the supporting organizations to provide technical assistance and advice. 50 footages of educational yet funny video and animation have been uploaded to CE3 web site and Facebook with over 260,000 viewership having been recorded within six months.
"As long as the public, young people in particular, increase their awareness of the greenery around after gaining more understanding of trees, they will know the importance of tree conservation, and that is the best way for us as human beings to re-connect with nature,” concluded Dr. Tang.
