Joint Statement Advances Hong Kong’s LAE Standardization and Commercialization
Esri China (Hong Kong) joined organizations from Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and overseas in supporting a joint statement to advance the safe, interoperable and commercially sustainable development of the low-altitude economy.
The Future of Low Altitude Economy: An Inter-City Dialogue on Commercialization and Standardization was held at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) on September 10, 2026, bringing together more than 300 representatives from government, academia, industry and research organizations from Hong Kong, Mainland China and overseas. Discussions focused on commercialization, standardization, technological innovation and cross-sector collaboration.
A key highlight was the signing of the Joint Statement of Intent on Low-Altitude Aviation Standards and Interoperability. The initiative seeks to advance regional and international LAE standards and strengthen collaboration in areas including airworthiness and safety certification, airspace management and regulatory governance, cross-border operations, and data interoperability.
Sr Prof Paul Tsui, CEO of Esri China (Hong Kong), represented the company among the supporting organizations, while Dr. Winnie Tang, MH, JP, Founding Vice President of the Greater Bay Area Low-Altitude Economy Alliance (GBA-LAEA), represented the Alliance as one of the initiating organizations in the signing ceremony.
Dr. Tang also moderated the panel discussion “From Pilot to Profit: Driving Commercialization for a Sustainable LAE.” Panelists shared international experience from Kazakhstan and Indonesia and discussed precision agriculture, eVTOL vertiports and skyway networks, global standards frameworks, and regulatory sandboxes as a pathway to faster commercialization.
