Census Data Featured at
ArcGIS StoryMaps Competition
Co-organized with the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, the GIS Academy successfully concluded the ArcGIS StoryMaps Application Competition 2023/24 - "Telling Stories Using Census Data" on July 4, 2024. This competition, which integrated census and statistical data with the analytical capabilities of GIS, aimed to address pressing issues in Hong Kong through the innovative use of ArcGIS StoryMaps.
The award-winning students gave presentations using ArcGIS StoryMaps to share their insight into various social issues by analyzing census data using ArcGIS.
Mr. Leo Yu, Commissioner for Census and Statistics from the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, officiated and delivered a speech at the award presentation ceremony. The competition received a positive response, with the quality of the submissions surpassing expectations. “Participating students effectively utilized population census data to explore and analyze various social phenomena in Hong Kong, creating compelling StoryMaps to present their analysis.” Mr. Yu said.
Mr. Leo Yu, Commissioner for Census and Statistics (center), presented the award to the champion team of the Senior Secondary School Division.
The competition was divided into two main categories: junior and senior secondary schools. Winners in each category, including the champions, 1st runner-up, 2nd runner-up, and other meritorious participants were recognized at the ceremony for their achievements.
The winning teams shared a joyful moment with the judges and guests at the award presentation ceremony.
