Esri China (HK) Joins

the Esri User Conference 2024

 

The Esri User Conference 2024 (Esri UC 2024) was successfully held from July 15-19, 2024, under the theme “GIS—Uniting Our World”. More than 21,000 GIS professionals from more than 130 countries gathered in San Diego, California, for the world’s largest GIS conference. Along with over 22,000 digital participants, the four days conference aimed to facilitate knowledge sharing and learning in response to the world's most challenging issues.

 

Esri China (Hong Kong) led a team of professionals and users from the public and private sectors to attend the Esri UC 2024 in the United States. Professor Anthony Yeh, Chair Professor in the Department of Urban Planning and Design at the University of Hong Kong, and Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered a presentation as one of the distinguished speakers at the Asia Pacific Regional User Group (RUG) session during Esri UC 2024. Additionally, Mr. Zhang Chen, Champion of Esri Young Scholars Award (YSA) 2024 shared his outstanding geospatial project Socio-Economic Inequality below Floods at the Map Gallery.

 

In the Plenary Session, Dr. Jack Dangermond, the Founder and President of Esri, showcased the latest ArcGIS applications in addressing global issues such as climate change, conservation, urban planning, and sustainable development on various scales. Dr. Dangermond highlighted the visualization of Hong Kong real-time MTR train information on a 3D city map of Hong Kong powered by ArcGIS. He also unveiled his latest publication “The Power of Where” offering a visual and narrative journey into the world of modern geographic technology.

Esri announced the latest technology updates of ArcGIS during UC 2024, including:

  • New AI Assistants supported by Generative AI and large language models and,
  • The new Mapping Assistant can help create maps through simple, natural language questions and requests.   
  • New ArcGIS Web Editor app delivers focused and streamlined editing experiences for those desiring web-based editing workflows and roles.
  • Flood simulation capabilities in the latest ArcGIS Pro 3.3 update.
