Dr. Tang Offers Support for PolyU Student
Innovation & Entrepreneurship
Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) Student Entrepreneurial Proof-of-Concept (POC) Funding Scheme is a funding initiative launched in 2017 as one of the key entrepreneurship education components at PolyU. With the kind support of the ‘Dr Winnie S M Tang-PolyU Student Innovation & Entrepreneurship Scholarship’, the PolyU Student Entrepreneurial Proof-of-Concept (POC) Funding Scheme aims to instill a problem-driven innovation mindset in young talented students through experiential learning and student-initiated research and development. At the PolyU InnoTech Open Day, Dr. Winnie Tang, founder and chairman of Esri China (Hong Kong), presented a 5 million Hong Kong Dollars check to PolyU as a donation for the Scholarship. Twenty years ago, Dr. Tang produced the first vegetation map of Hong Kong with support from PolyU. By giving back to the university, Dr. Tang hopes to inspire the youth to drive geospatial innovation and smart city development in Hong Kong.
In addition, during the PolyU InnoTech Open Day, Dr. Tang delivered a presentation to share her insight on the topic of “AIoT and GIS Empowering Sustainable Smart Cities”. The Smart Site Management System (SSMS), bridge vibration monitoring system, smart traffic monitoring system, and several other GIS+IoT examples were introduced.
