Airport Authority Hong Kong
Receives Esri SAG Award
With the application of geographic information systems (GIS), the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has developed and implemented the Enterprise Geographic Information System (EGIS) at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), which aims to transform HKIA into a Smart Airport with higher operating efficiency in terminal workforce management and facilities management. The Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award winners were announced during the Esri User Conference 2022. AAHK was awarded the SAG Award and received the prize in our local Award Presentation Ceremony on September 20, 2022. Dr. Winnie Tang, founder and chairman of Esri China (Hong Kong), presented the award to Mr. Ricky Leung Wing-kee, Executive Director, Engineering & Technology, AAHK.
HKIA is the only international airport to receive the 2022 SAG Award outside of the United States. AAHK’s implementation of the EGIS at HKIA creates a single source of truth for all geospatial information and data for the airport. Five GIS applications including Airfield Ground Light, High Mast Lighting, Airfield Pavement, Potable Water, and the Sewer System have greatly improved efficiency in the daily management of facilities which require maintenance. This facilitates the analysis, simulation and visualization of the impact to services and interruptions to other business areas, such as terminal facility management and retail.
Also, a new GIS workflow application, namely the Airport Work Management System (AWMS), has been implemented for planning control and effective monitoring of the Work Permit and Work Order related works for the whole airport island with spatial information. AAMS is a GIS-centric asset management system which is powered by GIS technology. Due to the high compatibility of the GIS platform, BIM data and asset information from Maximo can be integrated and visualized with geospatial content. This facilitates the asset information identification process and streamlines the service request workflow.
The EGIS is powered by both desktop and web-based GIS systems, which utilize ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS 3D Analyst, ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, and ArcGIS Data Interoperability for ArcGIS.
