HK ArcGIS Launched to Support National AI+ Initiative

Esri China (Hong Kong) officially launched HK ArcGIS, a Hong Kong-developed ArcGIS platform, at the Charles K. Kao Auditorium, Hong Kong Science Park, on May 4, 2026. The ceremony brought together more than 300 distinguished guests, partners, and users from government, industry, academia, research, and investment sectors.

 

HK ArcGIS represents both a new beginning and a continuation of our long-standing commitment to Hong Kong as Esri China (Hong Kong) moves towards its 30th anniversary. We invite you to watch our story video and revisit the journey behind this milestone.

 

The launch marks an important milestone in Esri China (Hong Kong)’s commitment to supporting the national AI+ initiative and Hong Kong’s innovation and technology development. Built on world-leading ArcGIS technology, HK ArcGIS is a Hong Kong-developed platform with locally owned intellectual property rights acquired from Esri Inc. It integrates Hong Kong-specific geoprocessing tools, ready-to-use local datasets, and pretrained AI+ GIS models optimized for local applications.

 

The HK ArcGIS Launch Ceremony was successfully held at the Charles K. Kao Auditorium, Hong Kong Science Park, bringing together distinguished guests from the government, industry, academia, research and investment sectors. 

 

Distinguished guests who participated in the launch ceremony included Dr the Hon Starry Lee Wai-king, GBS, JP, (photo above, front row, 5th from left) Member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and President of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; Dr the Hon Horace Cheung Kwok-kwan, SBS, JP, (front row, 7th from left) Deputy Secretary for Justice; Mr Ye Shuiqiu, (front row, 8th from left) Deputy Director-General of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; and Mr Kevin Choi, JP, (front row, 4th from left) Permanent Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry participated in the launch ceremony. 

 

The presence of distinguished guests from the government and different sectors reflected strong encouragement for local enterprises to support national and Hong Kong policy directions on AI+ and innovation.

Sr Prof Paul Tsui, CEO of Esri China (Hong Kong), delivered an opening speech to highlight the support to the national AI+ initiative by the launching of HK ArcGIS.

Prof Jack Cheng​, Associate Head and Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Associate Director of GREAT Smart Cities Institute delivered a presentation on the topic of “Digital Twin for Smart Campus at HKUST”.

 

Prof Kwong Chi Man, Professor and Chair of the Department of History, delivered a presentation titled “Handling Hong Kong’s Historical Spatial Data with ArcGIS.”

 

GIS professionals (left) demonstrated AI-powered dirty sign recognition with HK ArcGIS Pro at the HK ArcGIS demonstration zone.
