Nurture Students with Knowledge of

Satellite Image Analysis

Ever wondered how our city appears from outer space? The GeoSpace Innovators Challenge provides an answer! This territory-wide competition extends a valuable opportunity to secondary school students, empowering them with knowledge of GIS and satellite image analysis. Armed with these skills, participants can identify and resolve real-world issues with a geographic approach.

A hands-on workshop was successfully held on May 17, 2025. Dozens of students who have joined the competition, participated to learn about the concept of remote sensing by using three Esri web apps — Landsat Explorer, Sentinel-2 Explorer, and World Imagery Wayback.

The competition is organized by the GIS Academy and Esri China (Hong Kong), co-organized by HKEdCity, Map in Learning Program, and the Smart City Consortium (SCC), with the support of AiTLE and the Conservation E3 Foundation. Participating teams will showcase their findings with ArcGIS StoryMaps at the Learning & Teaching Expo 2025 on July 2-4, 2025. An Award Presentation Ceremony will crown the champions of this innovative challenge.

GIS tutor from Esri China (Hong Kong) gave hands-on training to secondary school students on satellite image analysis using ready-to-use web apps.
