Esri China (HK) User Conference 2023

The Esri China (Hong Kong) User Conference 2023 (HKUC 2023) was successfully held on April 4, 2023, attracting over 500 delegates of senior executives, GIS users, and industrial professionals who came together to exchange knowledge and insights on the theme of “Leading Geospatial Innovation”. Dr. Jack Dangermond, founder and president of Esri Inc. delivered the keynote speech and kicked off the GIS Academy, a newly established NGO focused on nurturing young talent with geospatial capabilities. In addition, seven senior executives generously shared their experience on GIS applications across various fields, including construction management, urban renewal, digital twins for asset management, GIS for emergency services, and more. 

 

More than 500 delegates attended the Esri China (Hong Kong) User Conference 2023. 

 

Marking the 25th anniversary of our company in Hong Kong, the conference started with the premiere launch of our corporate video, highlighting the GIS technology that has been living with us in our everyday lives in Hong Kong. In the welcome speech, the Chief Executive Officer of Esri China (Hong Kong) Sr Paul Tsui also pointed out that GIS has been evolving and data are made public via the Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI) Portal. Sr Tsui encouraged users to embrace these changes and migrate to ArcGIS Pro. During the “Latest GIS Technology Showcase”, our colleagues demonstrated the capabilities of ArcGIS Pro in leveraging location intelligence through geospatial analysis, real-time IoT, 3D GIS and BIM GIS integration, and interactive map dashboards in a local context. 

Education was a key feature of the HKUC 2023. Founding the GIS Academy, Dr. Winnie Tang, founder and chairman of Esri China (Hong Kong), officially launched the GIS Academy together with Dr. Jack Dangermond and Sr Paul Tsui. More than this, the champions of the Esri Young Scholars Award (Esri YSA), and Esri China (Hong Kong) 25th Anniversary STEAM Cup - Mulit-subjects ArcGIS StoryMap Application Competition were announced. The winners of these two signature GIS competitions presented their winning projects on the stage.

The success of the conference relied on not only the full house of guests, but also support from the sponsors. Planet, a leading company providing daily fresh earth imagery,  gave a presentation during the luncheon and showcased  their latest earth imaging technology at their booth. Motive Force set up the LED Immersive Cave powered by the ArcGIS Game Engine API. FJDynamics showcased their hand-held 3D point cloud mapping device, and Likons demonstrated their Indoor GIS technology, which also received an overwhelming positive response from visitors. Meanwhile, Lenovo is our equipment sponsor for the conference.

The HKUC 2023 received favorable feedback from the attendees. Indeed, the local user conference had not been held since 2017 due to various factors, including the outbreak of COVID-19, which disrupted many business activities and events across the world. The return of the conference shows our Company’s commitment to supporting the community of GIS users in Hong Kong, and to providing a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and exploring the latest developments in geospatial technology.
