Driving Transport Strategy Blueprint with GIS

The Hong Kong Government released the Transport Strategy Blueprint (TTSS) on February 6, 2026, outlining a long-term vision for the sustainable development of the city’s transport system. Adopting a people-centric approach to mobility, the blueprint supported by six strategies and 25 recommendations to guide future transport planning and infrastructure development.

In response to the TTSS, Dr. Winnie Tang, MH, JP, Founder and Chairman of Esri China (Hong Kong), shared her views in a commentary published in the Hong Kong Economic Times (HKET). She highlighted the role of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in supporting the blueprint’s implementation, noting that GIS-powered platforms can help integrate data across departments and improve coordination in transport planning and management. She also emphasized the potential of enhancing existing platforms such as the Common Operational Picture (COP) with GeoAI, satellite imagery, drones, and sensor networks to support smarter transport operations and more informed decision-making.
