GIS Academy to Be Launched Officially at the HKUC

Esri China (Hong Kong) has long been nurturing the young generation with geospatial thinking. To continue stepping up our efforts, Dr. Winnie Tang, founder and chairman of Esri China (Hong Kong), will hold an inaugural ceremony to launch the charity organization “GIS Academy” at the Esri China (Hong Kong) User Conference. This organization aims to cultivate more GIS talent in our local schools and universities so that we could expand the I&T talent pool in Hong Kong.

Founded by Dr. Tang in 2022, GIS Academy is a one-stop platform to nurture and inspire GIS professionals with the knowledge of GIS, spatial data analysis, and geospatial intelligence to turn Hong Kong into a smarter city. The Academy aims to encourage innovative educators and students to advance geospatial science, in research and education, aligned with industry trends and workforce needs. The Academy provides various programs that equip students with resources at all stages, starting from basic concepts to practical uses at all levels.

The vision of the GIS Academy is to enrich the GIS talent pool and to secure a supply of GIS specialists so as to help the next generations better prepare for the booming innovation and technology development in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. It carries out the mission of promoting geospatial data and GIS with diversified and global thinking, encouraging students to master GIS technology through e-learning, and enhancing young people’s analytical capabilities and problem-solving skills.

GIS Academy is open to eligible people who are interested in the vision and mission of the Academy. There is no entrance fee for membership. Visit the homepage of GIS Academy https://gisacademy.hk/ and become a member.
