The COVID-19 pandemic hinders our daily life, but not our desire to seek new knowledge. Invited by the Continuing Professional Development Committee of Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), Dr. Winnie Tang, founder and chairman of Esri China (Hong Kong) shared her insight on how GIS and other smart technologies will drive sustainable smart city development. More than 700 members of the HKIE attended the webinar on the evening of March 3, 2022.

Sewage surveillance helps Hong Kong to quickly identify infected people in our high-density urban environment. In the webinar, Dr. Tang showcased that, Geographic Information Systems (GIS)  have been playing an important role in the operation of large-scale sewage surveillance and in providing early warning of outbreaks in the community.  She also illustrated the functions of the local COVID-19 interactive map dashboard. By utilizing ArcGIS Dashboard technology, the local COVID-19 interactive map dashboard constantly records the location of positive cases with other insightful information, all available at a glance.
