With the support of Esri China (HK), the Social Enterprise Summit (“SES”) launched Good Map Online in response to the concept of “innovative community economy”, which allows different communities to develop social enterprises for their needs.

Good Map is the first HK website using GIS technology and Esri Story Maps technology for social enterprises. It includes the detailed information of over 500 social enterprises of Hong Kong in more than 30 categories, such as dining, laundry, post-natal care and babysitting, moving service, green products, massage, etc.

Good Map Online is a highly interactive website that shows multi-dimensional information in the format of electronic map and graphics. It allows visitors to look for the information they need, such as the Chinese (traditional and simplified) and English introduction, mission and value, service, contact information of the social enterprises, in clear and interesting ways.

For instance, the list of social enterprises displayed will be updated as per the scope and zoom level of the map, and when users click one of the social enterprises in the list, the map will automatically zoom to the location of that social enterprise. Its user interface is also able to adapt to the screen of different devices such as PCs, tablets and smartphones, because of the “Responsive Web Design” that it is based on.

Users can locate the social enterprises they need by directly navigating the electronic map, using the buttons of 18 districts, searching by districts, names and categories of the social enterprises. Not like an internet search service, the search result is not ranked based on popularity, so that every social enterprise has the equal opportunity of exposure.

Good Map Online is developed by Story Maps technology of Esri’s cloud-based web mapping platform, ArcGIS Online.

Good Map Online helps to strengthen district economy by keeping citizens up-to-date with information of the flourishing Social Enterprises. It can bring employment and training opportunities to citizens in different districts, let disadvantaged and underprivileged to develop their potential, and increase cohesion of communities.

Dr. Winnie Tang believes the blooming of social enterprises can promote the harmony and coherence of communities.
