Esri China (HK) Chairman Shares Insights
on Spatial Data Infrastructure
Dr. Winnie Tang, Chairman of Esri China (HK), recently shared her insights on building a Smart City based on a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) through byline articles in media.
A SDI refers to an open platform for integrating geographic data, metadata, users and tools from government and private sectors. The platform is usually created in the format of a web portal for disseminating and distributing geospatial information effectively and efficiently by using Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
Dr. Tang believes a SDI makes geospatial information accessible and reusable across the city and it can transform the information into web services that can be shared across the platform and assembled in useful ways. Thus, higher levels of productivity and innovation can be reached in a Smart City.
