Michael Goodchild Visited Esri China (HK) Office

Esri China (HK) is proud to have invited Professor Michael Goodchild, a renowned scholar of Geography and GIS, visiting our office in March.

Professor Goodchild is Distinguished Chair Professor of Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics at the Polytechnic University of Hong Kong. He is currently Emeritus Professor of Geography at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), where he also holds the title of Research Professor. He founded the UCSB Center for Spatial Studies and he was Jack and Laura Dangermond Professor of Geography, and Director of the center before he retired in June 2012.

 

The research interests of Professor Goodchild center on geographic information science, spatial analysis, and uncertainty in geographic data. He has made tremendous contribution to the GIS industry. He was elected member of the National Academy of Sciences and Foreign Member of the Royal Society of Canada in 2002, member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2006, and Foreign Member of the Royal Society and Corresponding Fellow of the British Academy in 2010. He was the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis from 1997 to 2012. He has published over 15 books and 500 articles. In 2007 he received the Prix Vautrin Lud (Vautrin Lud Prize), which is commonly known as the highest award in the field of Geography.
