The Hong Kong Smart City Blueprint unveiled in mid-December 2017 showed the determination of the Government to build Hong Kong into a world-class smart city. Esri China (HK) is keen on integrating Geographic Information System (GIS) technology for smart city applications, its Research & Development Centre (R&D Centre) always takes the initiative to foster smart city development. On 18 January 2018, the R&D Centre hosted its first activity, Smart City Blueprint Luncheon at Hong Kong Science Park and invited The Government Chief Information Officer, Ir. Allen Yeung, JP, to deliver first-hand insight on Smart City. Dr. Winnie Tang, JP, Chairman of Esri China (HK) discussed how innovative GIS technology can help develop a smarter Hong Kong among honourable guests.

The Government Chief Information Officer, Ir. Allen Yeung, JP, pointed out six major areas about the strategies and initiatives of the Blueprint.

A centralized information system based on GIS plays a dominant role in integrating every aspect of smart city processes. The Blueprint vision of embracing innovation and technology is realized in the deployment of GIS technology. Esri China (HK)’s R&D Centre is well-prepared to help nurture more local talents in Geospatial Science and develop more innovative solutions to build Hong Kong as a spatially enabled smart city.
