CEM Won 2015 SAG Award
In Esri User Conference every year, Esri presents hundreds of organizations worldwide with Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Awards. The SAG Awards highlight users that have shown vision, leadership, hard work, and innovation in their use of Esri's GIS technology.
CEM introduced Esri’s GIS platform to support its business growth and expansion of infrastructure.
This year in San Diego, Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM) was among the 187 winners of the SAG Award by successfully implemented its new GIS platform.
CEM is a public utility company with a sole concession to transmit, distribute, sell high, medium and low voltage of electricity in Macao. CEM started to use GIS since early 90s. The last GIS platform was operated for more than 10 years, a technology and functional update was necessary to support the business growth and also the rapid expansion of the electricity supply infrastructure in Macau.
After careful evaluation, Esri technology was selected to be the 3rd generation GIS platform of CEM. The new system was based on ArcGIS Suite 10.2, ArcFM 10.2 and SQL Server 2012. The platform is running on a virtualized platform and so far it is proven that the virtual infrastructure can support well the system operations.
The project started in Oct 2013 and the new system was commissioned in January 2015. More than 200,000 assets were migrated from the legacy platform to the new Esri platform. ArcGIS for Desktop was introduced to manage the network editing with workflow governance to further enhance productivity and integrity of the network data. The new solution introduced a web-based front end which makes the system to become a real corporate-wide system in a way that all PC users are able to access the system via browser without having to have a GIS client installed. A two way interface was developed with CEM’s corporate ERP software during the project, the system together with ERP formed a solid Enterprise Asset Management platform for CEM to well manage the growing asset base. The project is still currently undergoing a 3rd phase extension which the mobile platform will be introduced by September 2015.
