Esri China (HK) supported the Smart City Project Programme 2017/18 organized by the Education Bureau, as it enhanced primary and secondary students’ understanding of smart city and their interest in learning and applying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects. In fact, the company has spent enormous effort in promoting STEM education through the Map in Learning Program (MiL Program), in which gives local primary and secondary schools free access to ArcGIS Online, a professional geo-information system for government, private and public enterprises.

Dr. Choi Yuk Lin, Under Secretary for Education, gave welcoming remarks at the prize presentation ceremony held on 29 June 2018. Sr. Paul Tsui, Managing Director of Esri China (HK) received a souvenir as the company is a supporting organization and has conducted workshops for the Smart City Project Programme 2017/18.

Dr. Winnie Tang (right), Chairman of Esri China (HK), encouraged students from SKH Tang Shiu Kin Secondary School to be more innovative in their “smart recycling bin” project.

In one of the award-winning projects, students from SKH Tang Shiu Kin Secondary School designed a smart recycling bin which makes use of ArcGIS Online to manage the waste level of the bin and alert the waste collectors in a timely fashion. Information about the fullness of recycling bin can also be easily shared through the GIS online platform so that citizens can plan in advance to locate an appropriate waste collection point near them.
